Portal A + Wheelhouse Entertainment

Today, we’re very proud to announce a partnership that marks a new chapter for Portal A.

We are thrilled to be going into business with Wheelhouse Entertainment, a powerhouse media and entertainment venture founded in 2018 by one of the entertainment world’s most widely respected TV producers, Brent Montgomery.

Read the announcement in The Hollywood Reporter and Adweek.

From our first meeting with Brent, it was clear that he was the type of fearless and relentlessly motivated leader we needed in our corner. As we learned more about the world conquering plans for Wheelhouse, and got to know the best-in-class leadership team he was assembling –including bringing in Jimmy Kimmel as a partner in Wheelhouse– we know this was the type of partnership that would propel Portal A to new heights.

As part of this deal, Wheelhouse will be making a strategic investment in Portal A and taking a minority stake in the company. Portal A will remain independent; and the bootstrapped, underdog mentality that has defined this company over the past decade will continue to be our north star.

This deal will supercharge Portal A in a few important ways. With Wheelhouse’s leadership team behind us, we will grow our footprint nationally and expand our offering to our clients and partners. New connections to talent, network buyers, and leading brands will add jet fuel to our efforts. Brent and his team’s mentorship will allow the three of us, and our entire team, to set our sights even higher.

The vision for Portal A remains unchanged, but the future is brighter than ever before. The mission of this company is to create premium, breakthrough entertainment for a new generation of viewers – and we are so fired up to be doubling down on that mission alongside our new partners at Wheelhouse.

Here’s to big dreams in 2019 and beyond. Let’s do this!

Zach, Kai, and Nate

YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls Rewind

In Rewind 2018, the Power Is With Creators and the YouTube Community

Entering its seventh year, and with over one billion views, YouTube Rewind has emerged as one of the most anticipated traditions on the internet.

Each year, Rewind brings together twelve months of trends, stars, music, and memes in a single video that serves as a time capsule for what matters most on YouTube. It’s a fireworks display of digital culture and a can’t-miss event that draws the attention of fans from around the world.

Having partnered with YouTube on Rewind since the first iteration in 2011, the project holds a special place in our hearts. The scale has grown, but the core principle remains the same – celebrate the amazing creativity on the platform, and remind the world of what an incredible place YouTube has become.

The YouTube community has always been front and center in Rewind, but this year, we took this collaboration to new heights – by handing over the reins to Creators and fans to decide what should be in Rewind 2018.

The result is a video that reimagines the biggest memes and trends of the year, but also breaks new ground on what Rewind can be. This year, in addition referencing mega hits like Fortnite, Drake’s “In My Feelings” challenge, and K-Pop sensation BTS, Rewind 2018 pays tribute to groups that form the core of YouTube – from educators on the platform to the LGBTQ community to the powerful women of YouTube.

WATCH: YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls Rewind | #YouTubeRewind

As always, the production of Rewind was a white knuckle roller coaster ride that took us around the world and back. When all was said and done, we had partnered over 100 YouTube Creators, animators, viral stars, and celebrities, representing over 25 different countries, with 17 shoot days spread across Rio De Janeiro, Seoul, London, Abu Dhabi, Los Angeles, Chicago, and more.

Needless to say, Rewind is a herculean task, and none of it would be possible without the incredible efforts and leadership from our partners at YouTube – whose ambitious and adventurous spirit matches our own – and the amazing roster of YouTube Creators, who are the ones that make this project sing. The unsung heroes behind the making of Rewind – the production crew – worked tirelessly to bring the Rewind vision to life, and brought ingenuity and innovation at every step of the process. Thank you.

Meet the team behind YouTube Rewind 2018 below and watch the Behind the Scenes video.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to bring Rewind to a worldwide audience, and refresh the format in 2018 with the voice of the community itself. We say this each and every year, but we hope you love watching as much as we loved making it.

The Portal A Team
